Quests

Seven nights, or thirty

A run with a route and an ending, paced in one pass so it climbs instead of repeating. You both see the same calendar. You still read different lines.

An open door at night with light across the floorboards, running shoes and heels kicked off, jeans and a skirt in a heap, and one red pair of underwear on the threshold.

7

A week. Enough to interrupt whatever this month has been.

14

Two weeks, so the middle is not still the beginning.

30

A month with the ending already on the calendar.

What a day can be

  • Sex

Most of the run. Each of you reads your own line, so the night still has two sides.

  • Closeness

Fewer of these. Looking after, a long kiss, the sex you already have. Still a body night, not a wellness day.

  • Off

Rest is scheduled from the first day. A run that never stops is a run somebody is going to start lying to.

  • Review

The last night. You do one day again, or you redo one that flopped, and you say what you learned.

The calendar is a plan, not a record. You can see what kind of night Thursday is from the day you start. The words on it stay sealed until you get there.

No counter, no percentage, no missed day.

A skipped day is silent and the run moves on. Your partner is never told you passed. The moment a quest keeps score, sex turns into a chore with a punishment attached, and the chore is exactly what produces the yes neither of you means.
